Festivals in Singapore: Body piercing festival. Happy Thaipusam!

Yesterday, for a while, I had a chance to observe a very special procession in Little India.

It was a 1st day of Thaipusam, Hindu festival, celebrated on the full moon in Tamil month of Thai (January of February).

Some devotees  were carrying just fruits and pots with milk or wooden kavadis, but there were many who decided to pierce their tongues with skewers  and carry kavadi decorated with flowers and peacock feathers on their shoulders.

That was amazing experience. If you have a chance to see Thaipusam procession next year, I fully recommend to go by evening/night, so then you can see kavadis with many colourful lights on them.
